Our Vision and Values

At Calderdale, we know what we want to achieve.

We want to make sure that everyone's ideas for the future of Calderdale are listened to, that people know their rights and responsibilities, and that people are involved in shaping the services they want. We want to help people from different backgrounds have the chance to meet and understand one another, and promote good relationships between all people in their workplaces, schools and neighbourhoods. Ultimately, we want to give everyone in Calderdale the chance to succeed, regardless of their background.

And we can sum this up in one clear statement.

That’s our vision. We want Calderdale to be a place where we value everyone being different and through our actions we demonstrate that everyone matters.

Vision into Reality

We’re making good progress: it’s a vision which is moving ever closer to reality. We’ve set some ambitious, but achievable targets, the successful delivery of which will really make a difference to people’s lives.

We’ve committed to economic stability, having stated that there will be no more than a 2% rise in council tax. We’re tackling waste, through a comprehensive overhaul of the waste collection process and by developing a partnership with our neighbouring authority, Bradford. We’re putting major project structures in place to deliver schools (Building Schools for the Future), one-stop-shop customer service centres (Halifax Customer First), and leisure facilities (Pools Project) across the borough. We’re looking to deliver measurable improvement in caring for vulnerable people, and are working to ensure that the differences in health, quality of life and economic prosperity between different communities within Calderdale reduce (Narrowing the Gap) And we are, as always, ensuring we deliver on our Local Area Agreement and Central Government commitments.
